Perfect analysis and formula!

Many people ask what even is Biochar? How does it work? The answer is this:

Biochar works by providing a stable, porous carbon-rich material that improves soil structure, increases water retention capacity, enhances nutrient availability, and can help sequester carbon in the soil for long periods when added to the ground.

Just this 8 qt bag covers 32 sq ft of soil amendment. Perfect for our in ground garden! We used a different brand last year and were impressed, but this, well, being of an higher quality and better formula, this is the choice now! Adding this is sure to boost the soil and yield larger, stronger better harvests! I’ll be coming back for more as our garden is a little larger!

Rich and moist

Rich and easy to spread on base of plants. Very dark and granuled soil. Feels like it is very rich and moist. Hope it will help my starving plants.

Looking forward to using

I’ve been using Rosy Soil products for the last few years for some of my houseplants, which has helped significantly. So I was really happy to see this soil amendment that I can use indoor and outdoor. I’ll be using this in an existing vegetable raised bed this spring to give the soil a boost. While it’ll take awhile to notice whether there is a difference, I’ve been loving their other products. I’m not an expert, but the quality seems high and I’ve also never had an issue with their soils producing pests (some other brands have actually created problems in my house, like having fungus gnat eggs, etc). It’s a bit pricey though. But other than that, I look forward to trying.

Good soil amendment

I ordered this as I have been wanting to work with biochar some before making my own. The cost for the bag is expensive, but its not meant to be potting soil - its meant to add to potting soil or other medium you are planting in. When talking about things like biochar, it doesn't require a lot of product - this is sufficient for a decent raised sized bed for sure, or top dressing probably 2 normal sized raised beds.

What I found interesting is that there is no mention of organic on the bag. It seems like it should be organic but without being specific about it, it eliminates the ability to use it in certified organic gardening. Not a problem from my standpoint (I am growing with organic methods but not that crazy about it).

I put it on some vegetable beds and felt that it was good consistency - not chunky and easy to work with. As to the actual claims of having mycorrhizae and such, I have no way to confirm that or discredit it. But it is a nice, dark and seemingly rich product as one might expect from a biochar and compost amendment. Time will tell if it helped out in any significant way.

Another thing to consider is that if this is indeed living soil, one must consider that when storing it. The benefits of the living soil will decline over time and keeping it in a hot environment without air may exacerbate that. So don't buy more than you need to use immediately.

Good soil amendment

We have very sandy soil and use this to help improve the soil quality and it's ability to retain moisture. This product works just as well as the major brands you find at the big box stores.

FAQs

Peat moss has been a common ingredient in commercial potting mixes since the 1960s. However, it's obtained by extracting peat bogs, which are vital ecosystems that store carbon. At Rosy, we believe there's a better way. So, we've developed our blends with alternatives that are effective and sustainable.

Rosy’s indoor potting soil is all-natural, peat free, and made from biochar.

We’ve consciously sourced our ingredients not only because they’re great for your plants but also because they’re good for our planet

Unlike traditional potting soil ingredients that are environmentally taxing, our biochar potting mix only contains natural and carbon-negative amendments.

Read additional information about Our Mission.

We use carbon-negative, organic ingredients to create the best indoor plant potting mix.

Typically, these organic materials are sent to a landfill, where they release methane and CO2 — two potent greenhouse gases. But by redirecting these organic materials from landfills and stabilizing their carbon structure, we prevent the release of those greenhouse gases.

Essentially, we turn our house plant soil into a carbon sink, which means it helps to remove CO2 from the atmosphere.

Discover more about what we mean by Earth Positive on Our Mission page.

Yes! You can add Rosy to your current houseplant potting soil — whether it’s an inorganic or organic potting soil mix, cactus or orchid mix, or otherwise.

Doing so will help you refresh your old soil and revive its benefits for plant care.

Alternatively, you could directly replace your current houseplant soil mix with Rosy.

You can use Rosy indoor soil for plants like:

Tropical plants (monstera, money tree, ZZ)

Philodendron

Pothos

Trailing plants

Ferns

Why is it the best soil for these plants?

Rosy is a well draining potting soil, offering an optimal balance of drainage and moisture retention. Plus, it’s fertile and supports beneficial microbes, which help your indoor plant thrive.

Our 8 Quart bag of Rosy indoor potting mix will fill:

4 to 6 medium 6" pots

Our 4 Quart bag of Rosy indoor potting mix will fill:

2 to 3 medium 6" pots

And unlike traditional indoor potting mixes, you won’t need to replace the soil every year due to compaction.
